Cajuns are French-Canadians who left Canada
starting around 1755 for religious reasons
and ended up in Southern Louisiana. The word 'Cajun' comes
from the word 'Acadian', which is what people are called from
Acadia (a Canadian province). The influence of Southern
United States English, Spanish and who knows what else created a
very distinctive dialect of French.
